We had challenges in storing and managing massive amount of customer data. We needed ultra-low latency storage solution to keep up the customer experience. Also, we use it for our ML usecase to extract, process and train models real-time. This hybrid-flash solutions helped to simplified data delivery, facilitate real-time analytics generation with scalable virtualisation at affordable cost. We have been it for few years, and i’d say its highly dependable and secure. It has a great portfolio, that perfectly balances performance, capacity, cost and data service to fit business for any size.
  • Ultra low latency for best performance and improve productivity
  • Wide portfolio options for different customer sizes
  • Advanced virtualisation for good scalability
  • Safeguarded snapshot creation
  • User interface could be improved
  • Upgrade and patch could be smoother
  • Limitation in storage expansion functionality
IBM Storage FlashSystem helps us to save lot of time in job executions that involve complex processing. The hybrid cloud tools make the replication and migration easier and convenient. We use IBM Storage FlashSystem as our primary storage array for our virtualization environment. It provides storage for our main 5 host cluster via 16Gb fiber channel. The hosts support roughly 100 virtual machines. The business problems that the unit addresses are providing very fast VM storage with extremely low latency. The array contains 12 NVME storage modules in a ~RAID6 level setup, so that we can lose 2 drives without impacting uptime.
  • Low latency
  • Storage DRS is supported
  • Ease of expansion
  • Drive firmware updates are a bit clunky, the update files have to be sourced manually
  • IBM has separate storage monitoring you need to set up to get good historical statistics.
  • If you need 8 16Gb ports you will not be able to expand with a SAS connector.
IBM Storage FlashSystem is very well suited for a small or medium business that does not want to compromise storage performance. Pricing is excellent and transparent on the website. The option to have 8 16Gb FC connectors allows you to forgo expensive and complicated SAN switches if your host count is low enough. Fewer components make the infrastructure more reliable.

It is mainly targeted to cater to the needs of high-end IOs from different applications across the organization. Mainly focused on delivering mission-critical servers with low latency disk access. This helps us to reduce a significant amount of time while running jobs on various applications across different domains. The storage has been deployed to use across different divisions in the company.
  • Performance is the crucial element to be highlighted, as it delivers the best in class industry performance.
  • Guaranteed compression ratio, one of the leading in [the] industry we got a 2:1 guaranteed and it achieved as per the commitment.
  • Reliability is one of the main elements which works really well, even being a storewide family product it delivers [the] best reliability features.
  • [The] footprint is key, as it helped us to reduce our organization's 2 racks storage capacity into a 2U rack space.
  • Better GUI interface
  • Currently, [the] performance of FS7200 can't be monitored through TPC/SC, this should be considered to include in [the] future.
  • IBM primarily lacks in designing its products physical looks, should have designed more intrusive and attractive design. A first impression of the product creates [an] impressive opinion.
Well suited: 1. High-end applications, especially in banking or core oil-related applications where latency is the key in delivering optimal results 2. It addresses the needs of [a] large footprint in the datacenter, even an SME can manage the physical capacity in a limited IT space. Less appropriate: 1. There should be a cost-effective version of Flash in [the] IBM portfolio, which helps SMB to consider/opt within their budget. 2. Marketing, as the product has not been widely marketed by IBM. This is one of the areas which needs improvement.

I use [IBM FlashSystem] V7000 as [a] storage backbone of all my midrange infrastructural projects, in VMWare area as in Power Area (I4B and IBM AIX). Most of [the] customers I followed are collocated in small/medium enterprises (100-1000 users). V7000 has simplified shared data architectures introducing virtualization concepts and easy-to-manage complex storage layers. One of most appreciated features is availability at all: data are core in Enterprise and it focuses on [the] robustness of data storage solution. V7000 was appreciated for its stability.
  • Virtualization
  • Avalaibility
  • Performance
  • Heavy user interface
  • Poor patch management
  • Easy tier management
In structured Data Center introduction of new storage can be disrruptive, V7000 virtualization features are suitable for Old Storage revitalization activities. Furthermore traditional VMWare Clusters are best served using V7000 equipment, and also VDI solutions are best built over a Full Flash V7000 Layer. Easy management interface must however be supported by a good command line interaction skills.

We have used IBM FlashSystem 5000 as storage device for our data protection solution provided by a third-party vendor. It was used in a high-availability environment for backup of all servers and some of the client systems in our company. With the speed of a flash array behind a data protection solution, we have gained a lot of speed and flexibility when it comes to restoring business-critical applications and data.
  • Flexible storage space allocation
  • High availability
  • High-performance storage
  • Flexible expansion options
  • Management interface is not 100% self-explanatory
IBM FlashSystem 5000 can be used for a wide range of use cases--in our case, as high availability and high speed storage for a virtual environment backup and disaster recovery solution. With flash-based storage and a powerful backup/restore solution, we are today able to restore larger VMs within minutes (running temporarily on IBM flash storage). When it comes to rack space and power consumption planing for the installation of this flash system, you need to do proper planing.

IBM FlashSystem 7000 is one of the main storage devices of our organization. IBM FlashSystem 7000 meets our needs in terms of speed and stability in this area where data is most intensively processed and moved.
  • Provides high endurance.
  • IOPS Strength - Power
  • Really Fast Speed
  • The user could be shown on which files the deduplication or compressions were stored.
  • Cost
The most suitable scenario for IBM FlashSystem 7200 is situations where data is processed and flowed at high speed. Here, CRM DB, ERP DB are created for digital transformation processes. In further use, you can work on large data with OLAP cubes. You can even integrate your e-commerce system with the V7200 physically located in your location.

We use IBM FlashSystem [5000] to tier out block storage and ensure that our most accessed applications have access to best in class flash storage while our test applications mainly reside on HDD (easy tier) and can burst to flash for preproduction testing. We also serve out content via SMB shares for document storage/retention purposes.
  • Ability to thin provision storage helps us maximize the capacity of the array
  • Mission critical applications have access to low latency storage
  • NVMe accelerated storage is ahead of the competition
  • Installation can be tricky — you might be in for a do over if you get the settings wrong on your deployment
  • Slow adoption of bleeding edge storage technologies
  • Not a good fit for every use case
IBM FlashSystem 5000 is well suited for providing storage to mission critical applications which require large storage pools over low latency fiber channel connections. It is also a good solution for maximizing document file retention where it is required by applicable standards. Price can be misleading if you don’t understand the different storage tiers such as HDD, Flash and NVMe.

Used across the entire business where we have a SAP ECC production environment running on devices connected to IBM Power Systems. Storage devices are exceptionally fast using NVMe Flash disks/arrays and are therefore achieving greater compression ratios by using on-board hardware compression accelerators. Even out read/write operations are faster than before which generally spends up a whole host of business functions.
  • Excellent support structure from IBM
  • Integration of the system with a host of midrange devices is super easy
  • GUI is intuitive and easy to navigate between models.
  • Some of the connective functionality with the IBM storage insights software is lacking.
  • IBM need to focus more specifically on their existing issues, rather than always seem to be pushing the bigger and newer versions.
It is well suited as a reliable and fast workhorse. It has a high level of integrated encryption and works well with the functionality straight out the box so well suited when you need something that works and works well quite quickly.

The IBM FlashSystem 5000 is being used by mission critical applications with low latency storage requirements. This is especially useful for systems such as SAP Business Intelligence (BI). Its also important to note that the IBM FlashSystem 5000 is certified by SAP for their SAP HANA Tailored Data Centre Integration (TDI) deployments. At the time of writing this review the following IBM FlashSystem models (with restrictions) are certified by SAP TDI includes the IBM FlashSystem 5010(H)/5030(H)/5100(H) which serves up to 4/18*/26* HANA nodes and the IBM FlashSystem 5015/5035/5200 which serves up to 4/18*/26* HANA nodes.
  • Offers NVMe-accelerated performance which is way faster than SATA SSDs
  • The FlashSystem 5000 offers all-flash and hybrid options
  • The FlashSystem 5000 provides the highest levels of availability to support mission-critical applications offering an IBM's six 9s availability design.
  • Installation should be simplified a bit as it can become a bit complicated to install
  • Enabling encryption and compression has the potential to affect performance
  • Pricing seems a bit higher than competitor models. This can be mitigated if you work with an IBM Gold Partner or higher that can secure better discounts.
IBM FlashSystem 5000 is well suited for most environments that requires a high performance storage system. Since the price of flash has decreased significantly over the past years, it can also be used to replace legacy disk based storage systems as part of a company's storage upgrade or refresh plan. If you have a tight budget, then the FlashSystem 5000 can be configured as a hybrid solution to decrease costs a bit. You can then make use of the Easy-Tier functionality to ensure that the data is automatically kept or moved the right type of storage to maintain application performance.

We use this for a high-performance record-keeping system that is highly transactional. Queries need to be resolved in milliseconds and in many cases require computations involving complex calculations and large data sets. We were able to move our database devices over to the FlashSystem 7200 storage which greatly improved the performance over traditional SAN storage. This was by far our best and easiest performance gain. We are using this within our department.
  • High performance
  • Low latency
  • Easy to present storage
  • Data storage
  • Easier to use encryption.
These are great storage devices that have great scale-out. They support high-performance real-time transaction processing systems. Also, they support complex query calculations across large data sets. I think any system that has SLAs requiring quick response times could benefit from this type of storage solution. Beats traditional SAN hands down. Improves performance of some transactions by two orders of magnitude over our previous traditional SAN storage array.
